A CDU delegation gathers on site to learn about the hydrogen project at Janinhoff.

Dr. Georg Lunemann And Stefan Weber learn all out about our hydrogen project

How can an energy-intensive production process be made future-ready—lowering emissions while remaining economically viable? This question was at the center of a factory visit by mayoral candidate Dr. Georg Lunemann and councilor Stefan Weber.

As one of the first industrial companies nationwide, we are converting our kiln entirely from natural gas to hydrogen. This is based on a 15-year climate protection agreement with the federal government—supported by a long-term investment plan and the commitment of our entire team.

The discussion focused on concrete steps for implementation: the conversion of klin lines, infrastructural adjustments during ongoing operations, and the technical requirements for the transition. The role of the local site was also addressed—particularly the hydrogen network, collaborations with the energy sector and research institutions, as well as existing initiatives in the region.

We thank everyone for their interest, the open exchange, and the time spent together!

Members of the Bundestag learn all out about our hydrogen project

How can the switch from fossil fuels to low-CO2 hydrogen be accomplished? Maria Klein-Schmeink (former MP, The Greens) and Sylvia Rietenberg (MP, Münster constituency) searched for answers during a visit to our brickworks. The occasion was a shift in how our production is powered.

On 30 October, we took our guests on a tour of our works – along the kiln lines, through technical concepts, funding applications and process chains. Focus was on the issue of how industrial climate protection can be implemented in concrete terms – technologically, economically and politically. The dialogue showed that, while the challenges are immense, they can be overcome if politics, courage to invest and planning security come together.

Thank you very much for your visit and the open, insightful conversation!

JANINHOFF SIGNS GERMAN GOVERNMENT'S CARBON CONTRACT FOR DIFFERENCE

Janinhoff is one of the first 15 industrial companies in Germany to have received a Carbon Contract for Difference from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

more

On 15 October 2024, we officially accepted the Carbon Contract for Difference from the then Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck, in Berlin. This means that our project of switching clinker production to hydrogen is officially part of the national transformation program. Funding for 15 years will cover the cost of the hydrogen, which is higher than that of natural gas. Our goal is to reduce our CO2 emissions by 60% by 2030, and to achieve 90% decarbonisation by 2042 at the latest.
